Volunteer Opportunities Currently Available:


1. Hospice Volunteer**

We are currently recruiting volunteers for our hospice programs in the Pottstown and Reading areas.    After completing an 18 hour training course, volunteers are assigned to offer companionship to hospice clients and respite for their caregivers.    The time commitment is about 2 hours per week after the training.    Hospice volunteering is very rewarding. 2. Acute Care Hospice Volunteer**

Our hospice programs are currently recruiting volunteers for the Acute Care Hospice Volunteer Program.    Acute care volunteers visit our hospice clients in the hospital and nursing homes.    They provide a much needed break for family members while providing support and companionship to the clients.    After completing the training program, acute care volunteers commit to making visits one day a week.    Visits can be as brief as 20 minutes or as longer if needed.    Please call today and find out how you can become an acute care volunteer!    


3. Hospice Bereavement Volunteer**

Reach out to those who have recently suffered the loss of a loved one by becoming a bereavement volunteer.    Bereavement volunteers continue to support our deceased hospice client’s family through periodic phone calls, mailings, and/or directed visits.

You will work closely with our Hospice Chaplain and Hospice Volunteer Coordinator. 

Hospice bereavement training will be provided.    


4. Hospice Hairdresser**

We are currently looking for volunteer hairdressers to offer services to our homebound hospice clients in the Reading and Pottstown areas.    You would attend a hospice training workshop prior to offering services to the clients.    We currently have several clients requesting haircuts.    Please consider using your talents to really make a difference in our clients’ care!


5. Specialized Hospice Volunteer**

Do you have a skill, talent, or specialized training you would be willing to offer to our hospice clients?    Are you a massage therapist, a musician, or an artist?    If you would be willing to share you special talents with our clients please call today to learn how you can join are team of wonderful hospice volunteers!


6. In-House Clerical Support

We are always in need of dedicated volunteers to assist our organization with our day-to-day clerical tasks.    Duties include filing, copying, assembling of information packet/folders, telephone surveys, and shredding.    By performing these clerical duties, our volunteers support our staff and help them to better provide the highest quality health care to our clients.


7. Computer Savvy Volunteer Needed

Volunteers needed to do basic data entry.    Several opportunities exist within various departments throughout our organization. Position would include updating information and/or documenting statistics.    Volunteer must be computer literate and have excellent attention to detail.    Volunteers will be trained by department.


8. Greeter Position (Once a Week)

Volunteers needed to greet visitors in our main lobby. Direct visitors to locations of meetings and provide a friendly smile first thing in the morning. If you are a "people person" and would like to welcome our staff and visitors to our building, then this is the opportunity you have been looking for!    One-on-one training is provided by our receptionist.    Only requirement is your pleasant personality!


9. Telephone Survey – How are Our Services?

You will be responsible for calling our new admission clients to see how we are performing our home health care services. You will be given a telephone script with specific questions to ask and a short form to fill out upon call completion. This volunteer opportunity is for someone who likes dealing with the public and can communicate well in a pleasant, professional manner. Training will be provided. 


Volunteer must have excellent communication skills. Must be professional and courteous when dealing with our clients. Volunteers will be trained on protocol and telephone script. 


10. Volunteer Nurses Needed! – 2008 Flu & Pneumonia Program

Become a member of our Flu Team! Help us administer vaccinations during our 2008 Flu & Pneumonia Campaign. Last year, our dedicated team of per diem nurses and volunteer nurses made it possible to administer over 6,700 vaccinations to our community!    You will be an integral part of our Flu Team helping to assess and administer flu and/or pneumonia immunization to our clients at our scheduled public and corporate flu clinic sites.

Volunteers must be registered nurses with a current nursing license. Must be able to provide your own transportation to our flu clinic sites. Must have a pleasant personality and good rapport with the general public.    Training will be provided on our consent forms and all other protocols.


11. On-Site Flu Clinic Clerks – 2008 Flu & Pneumonia Campaign

Help our organization during our annual Flu & Pneumonia Campaign!    Become a member of our awesome flu clerk team and help us provide this beneficial service to our community! Last year we were able to provide over 6,700 immunizations!    It was through the dedication of our volunteers that this was possible! Flu clinics typically run October through December. We usually have over 75 sites booked. You can volunteer for as many clinics that you would like!


Volunteers assist the general public in filling out their consent forms at our public & corporate flu clinic sites. This may also include handling cash/check transactions and/or Medicare billing.

Volunteers must have good clerical skills, attention to detail and ability to comfortably handle cash/checks.    Volunteers should have a pleasant personality and good rapport with the general public. Must be able to provide your own transportation to flu clinic sites.    Training will be provided.


** It is recommended that an individual wait one year after suffering a significant loss before becoming a hospice volunteer.
